Support Los Angeles Wildfire Relief Effort

Since January 7, at least seven separate wildfires have been ravaging Los Angeles and Southern California. More than 31,000 people have been ordered to evacuate and more than 14,000 structures are threatened, according to Los Angeles County's Coordinated Joint Information Center. Although the air quality index in Los Angeles has been good, tiny particulate matter is affecting vulnerable groups. "Fire debris and ash contain harmful substances like heavy metals, asbestos and toxic chemicals. Heavy metals such as lead and arsenic can come from burned electronics and building materials," said Dr. Barbara Ferrer, director of L.A. County Department of Public Health, at a press conference. Dr. Ferrer adds that other toxins, such as dioxins and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs), are present and are known to cause respiratory irritation.

To address this critical need, EKAM USA is fundraising for air purifiers for victims with medical needs, such as asthma and dialysis, who are heading back to their homes but have to face poor air conditions.
