Out of the 40 million Indians (approximately)suffering with some kind of visual impairment, more than 90% are adults. India is among the top 3 countries that have highest population of 50 years and above with visual impairment (IAPB, 2020).

A modest one-time donation of $60 can help save a life from permanent blindness. The Ophthalmic Centre Project caters to rural population in the state of Maharashtra, India. Under this project, several doctors and civil society organizations have joined hands with Ekam Foundation Mumbai to make available free cataract surgeries for residents of more than 280 villages (10,000 surgeries). These corrective eye surgeries not only save an individual but improves the overall well-being of their families, thereby ensuring they have a better quality of life.
