Urgent flood relief in India

Recent floods have caused a lot of devastation in Vijayawada and several other places in Andhra Pradesh. Lot of families are displaced, losing everything they own. Ekam USA is providing urgent flood relief to 200 families at $30 per family. This kit will give them basic supplies for 1 month, including rice, lentils, atta, oil, tamarind, peanuts, masala powders, soaps, sheets, etc

As you are aware, the Krishna District of Andhra Pradesh has experienced unprecedented devastation due to severe floods, which have also impacted Telangana, displacing many families in urgent need. The torrential downpour that began on August 30th resulted in an astounding 290 mm of rainfall within 24 hours—the heaviest in over 200 years. This deluge led to extensive flooding, with the Prakasam Barrage recording a surplus of over 1,140,000 cusecs, necessitating the opening of all 70 gates for the first time since its construction.

The continuous rainfall has severed road access to numerous villages, isolating communities and cutting them off from essential services. In the downstream areas along the Krishna River, homes and agricultural lands remain submerged, depriving residents of food, clean water, and medical supplies. Approximately 172,542 hectares of paddy crops and 14,959 hectares of horticultural crops have been affected, with 136 livestock reported dead.

The floods have placed a significant strain on vulnerable populations, including children, the elderly, pregnant women, and individuals with disabilities. Many are currently living in dire conditions along roadsides. The lack of electricity due to power outages has further compounded their suffering, leaving communities without light or communication. Public transport has been severely disrupted, with buses stranded in floodwaters and hundreds of train services canceled, isolating affected communities even more.

I have received urgent requests for support to distribute dry ration kits in the most affected areas, particularly in Kothapalem and Lanka villages. We have already distributed kits to 200 families in Bobbarlanka. I have attached pictures of the distribution.
